The inspiration to create a mirror installation for a visual music event in a narrow and confined space stems from personal experience within the timeframe of the pandemic. In the years '20-'21, we have strongly confronted the concept of necessary existence in restricted physical space. Thus, the absence of human interactions and self isolation triggered deep inner thinking and self evaluation.
Mirrors dittoing our idols. They simultaneously repeat the image of what faces them. On subjective level, standing in front of a mirror initiates a deep observation of one’s self, while occasionally that particular act of staring can lead to an inner conversation. On a metaphorical approach, mirrors portray repeated acts and behavioural patterns we never got the time to evaluate and examine in order to proceed with possible chances. A personal talk in front of the mirror is not just a physical reflection of one’s self but also an allegorical reflection of one’s life experience and a reminder that we are never alone.
What is that noise in your eyes? What do you hear when you stare at the mirror?
Do you recognise that face? Do you enjoy self gatherings in limited spaces?
Look around you. You are surrounded by your very own self.
Does it feel quizzical discussing with your various personalities?
Isn’t it bizarre to get to know yourself better?
Did you ever had the chance to get to know yourself?
Do you still feel alone?
What you see is not just an idol in the mirror. It is not a simultaneous repetition of your face expressions and body movements. Look closely and you will see your own significant life experiences that you haven’t got the time to reflect upon; perhaps not until now_
